How much Vitamin K2 should we take daily?

How much Vitamin K2 do we need a day?

Many Vitamin K2 products are being sold at drugstores and pharmacies, and mainly MK-4 and MK-7 are typically seen in the market. However, since MK-4 has a short half-life and is easily decomposed in our body compared to MK-7, Vitamin K2 supplements in the form of MK-7 are considered to be appropriate vitamin k2 supplements. If so, how much vitamin k2 MK-7 should we take daily?

There’s no definite answer for Vitamin K2’s recommended dietary allowance

The recommended dietary allowance for Vitamin K2 is not officially set yet. However, many suggest the starting dose of Vitamin K2 as typically 100 micrograms (mcg) daily for adults (Matthew Moher MD, 2018).

Since Vitamin K2 is also known for bone growth and health for adolescents, children are recommended to take 50 micrograms (mcg) of Vitamin K2 per day. Patients with particular diseases may need more Vitamin K2 doses, as their doctor recommends.

Would there be an adverse effect due to a high dose of Vitamin K2?

No adverse effects of a high dose of Vitamin K, found in foods in general or supplements, were reported. However, this does not eliminate the danger of a high dose since researchers are still in the process of setting up a safe dietary amount for Vitamin K2.
